Recycling Drop Off Depot PDF Print E-mail

DEPOT CLOSURE - JANUARY 25 & 26, 2010:  Please be advised that the North Shore Recycling Drop-off Depot will be closed to the public on January 25 & 26 to allow for the installation of our replacement office trailer.  The depot will re-open to the public on Wednesday, January 27.  We apologize in advance for an inconvenience this closure may cause.  We appreciate your patience!

The North Shore Recycling Drop-off Depot is a staffed, self-serve municipal recycling facility available to North Shore residents for the drop off of larger volumes and sizes of materials than might be practical in the curbside drop-off program.  The facility is also open to small businesses who need to recycle materials such as corrugated cardboard and paper, but residential traffic always takes priority, as the facility is funded through a residential solid waste utility.

The depot is open 7 days per week during the following hours:

  • Monday thru Friday - 8:00 am to 9:00 pm (April 1 to October 31)
  • Monday thru Friday - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (November 1 to March 31)
  • Saturday & Sundays - 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Statutory holidays - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

(Closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day)

The North Shore Recycling Drop-off Depot has bins for larger volumes of mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, telephone books and glass, as well as tin cans, some small mixed metals, food-grade aluminum (cans, plates, etc.) and rigid plastics #1, #2, #4 and #5. Just save up your materials for a month or so, then take them on down to the North Shore Recycling Drop-off Depot when you're heading for the 2nd Narrows Bridge. And if it's your first time visiting, make sure to say hi to a staff member - they'll be able to help you out with the location of the bins, what goes where, etc.

If You Visit - Some Things to Remember:

  1. Please pre-sort your materials into the various 'streams' or materials we collect - it will make your visit to the Depot much more efficient and pleasant.  Click here for a list of accepted items and how to prepare them.
  2. Staff may not always be available immediately to assist you, depending on traffic volume and other duties.
  3. The Depot is a busy place - for their own safety, please keep pets inside your vehicle for the duration of your stay.
  4. The Depot is an industrial facility - for their own safety, children must be under your direct supervision at all times.
  5. For the safety of our employees, we can not accept cash for composter or Wingdigger purchases. Cheques or online payments are our current preferred payment options, with PayPal payment to come at some point over the summer.
  6. We can not guarantee the security of any paper documents that are deposited in our recycling bins, either at our facility, or once they leave our facility.  If you are concerned with identity theft, please ensure your confidential documents are destroyed prior to your arrival at the depot.  We do not offer shredding facilities.
  7. Our staff is instructed to observe safety first - please defer to their instructions when asked to wait or move your vehicle.

Thank you for your cooperation.  It helps us operate a safe, pleasant, efficient program for all North Shore residents.
